SHOW COMMENTS:

A friend of mine, Scott Banham who runs the great Artful Dodger fan site contacted me about possibly promoting the upcoming Roger Clyne And The Peacemakers show at the Beachland Ballroom on the website. He asked If I ever heard the band and I told him no so he directed me to their website and I checked them out and I liked what I heard.

Sunday came and I decided to go to the show and check them out live as I was told by a couple of my friends they put on a great live show and I am glad I made the trip, I had a great time.

I got there right before the band started and I learned a long time ago if you really want to know things about a band talk to the road crew. I positioned myself next the the sound board for the show and asked board operator Steve if he had an extra set list around for my review and he told me I could have his after the show. I have to take the time here to thank Steve for all his incites into the different songs as I said earlier, if you want to know a band talk to the road crew. Steve told me little stories about some of the songs and it brought them to life.

It was refreshing to me and rare as I did not know a single song from the band, so I was actually able to listen and hear their music for the first time. As the band walked onto the stage the half filled house let out a roar letting any strangers like me know they were here in support of Roger and the guys.

The band kicked off a 27 song set with "I Do" a hard rockin song that was perfect to get the crowd into the night and the band never let up. After the first song Roger thanked the crowd and told them "Fridays and Saturdays are for amateurs, Sunday is when the pro's come out" What I noticed that you don't see with a lot of bands anymore is the interaction between the band and the audience but not here. Roger even got a bag of "Funyuns" from a fan which I take is from his days in the Refreshments from what Steve told me. He told the young lady she was too young to remember that and opened the bag, ate one and preceded to pass the bag around to the audience. Another noticeable interaction between Roger and audience was the shots of tequila that kept being bought for the band and the band saluted their fans with each one. One thing I can say, this is one drinking son-of-a-gun band but you know what, I can't remember a band that connected so well with it's audience in a long, long time. You could tell there is a mutual admiration between band and fans. Everywhere I looked, everyone in the crowd knew the songs and were dancing and singing along. The audience was having fun! This was evident several times during the show as Roger would turn the singing over to the audience and they responded. Seriously how many bands take requests from the audience? These guys do.

There were absolutely no lows in the show but some definite highlights for me were the opener "I Do", "Tell Your Mama", "Americano", "Counterclockwise", the beautiful "Green And Dumb" (which actually made me stop and buy the CD on my way out) and completely out of left field for me was the "King Of The Hill" theme song that Roger created. It was great!

The sound is definite rock and roll with a twinge of southwest thrown in, maybe since the band is out of Arizona and they are famous for their three day party in Mexico called Circus Mexicus, this makes sense. (This years Circus Mexicus is set for June 6-8th and if I would have known about this sooner I think I would have made the road trip, Expect me there in 2010 Roger)

The best way to describe the concert...Intense fits it pretty good. The band comes out and rocks you hard. This is a throw back band to the days of when a concert was supposed to be fun for both the band and the audience. This isn't a sit on your hands type of show and that's what the band wants. They want you off your seat and feeling the music and it's hard not to.

You know what, I had fun and I can't wait for them to come back to Cleveland. - Bear  Clevelandrockandroll.com
