Lynyrd Skynyrd have cancelled their remaining tour dates for 2015 to allow guitarist Gary Rossington time to recover from a recent heart attack. Rossington was hospitalized in early October after suffering a cardiac arrest, days before he had been scheduled to undergo heart surgery. Doctors repaired two heart stents and added a third during treatment, and his health crisis prompted the band to postpone a pair of shows later that month.
The band posted the following on Facebook: “After further evaluation and continued treatment by his doctors, Gary Rossington is taking the remainder of 2015 off from touring to concentrate on recuperating from his recent heart procedures. Lynyrd Skynyrd will commence touring in 2016 and look forward to seeing the fans next year.”
Lynyrd Skynyrd is expected to return to the stage in Thackerville, Oklahoma on January 29, 2016.
