One of the most iconic logos, especially in the Northeast Ohio area was launched 43 years ago today.
On April 17, 1973 WMMS launched the first Buzzard created by artist David Helton. This classic image would go on to change over the years and would be emblazed on t-shirts, buildings, bumper stickers and even tattoos for the most avid fan. I’ve seen the Buzzard on a shirt when I was on a stroll thru Paris once.
The Buzzard’s stature grew as WMMS would grow to be a power in the radio and music industry.
Congrats to David Helton, John Gorman, Denny Sanders and all of the rest of early WMMS staff that created not only a status symbol for the city but lasting memories for all of us.
