Call it “Woodstock UK”. 150,000 show up for the second Isle of Wight Festival. Tickets are the equivalent of $3 American and the audience includes three Beatles, two Rolling Stones, Jane Fonda, Liz Taylor and Richard Burton!
1972
John Lennon joins with Sha Na Na, Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder in a benefit concert for the One to One charity. Lennon puts out $60,000 of his own money in tickets for volunteer fundraisers.
1993
The first Late Show with David Letterman on CBS. Billy Joel is his first musical guest.
2016
Ringo Starr’s personal copy of The Beatles (the White Album), the first off the assembly line (catalog number 0000001), sets a Guinness World Record at a charity auction.
