Grand Funk Railroad scores a Number One hit with ‘We’re An American Band’, the group’s first of two chart toppers.
1976
During a wild birthday bacchanal Jerry Lee Lewis accidentally shoots his bass player Norman Owens in the chest. Lewis was blasting holes in an office door, and Owens survived but sued his boss.

This show at the Richfield Coliseum eliminated back of the stage seating limiting ticket sales to about 15,000.

1989
During a break from a motorbike journey from Los Angeles, Bruce Springsteen stopped in at Matt’s Saloon in Prescott, Arizona. While he was there he jammed with the house band including a bunch of rock and roll classics, like Presley’s ‘Don’t Be Cruel,’ and some Chuck Berry with ‘Sweet Little Sixteen’ and ‘Route 66.’ Bruce also donated $100,000 to a barmaid’s hospital bill and the link describing her reactions below.
