1957
American Bandstand debuts on US television with Dick Clark as host. He would later reveal that he was given the job after Philadelphia disc jockey Bob Horn, who hosted the show, was caught in a drunk driving arrest then same week his station was doing a series on DUIs. Clark was making plans to move to Cleveland!
1966
British star Johnny Kidd of the Pirates, an early influence on the Who and Beatles, dies in a car crash in Manchester. He becomes a member of the infamous 27 club. You’ll remember this song
1977
Steve Hackett leaves Genesis for a solo career. While highly respected his career doesn’t take the same trajectory of other ex-band mates Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
