1962
Then you’re outta here! NBC’s Jack Paar bans the folk group the Weavers from his show when they refuse to sign a pledge that they have never been members of the Communist party.
1968
New Jersey authorities swoop in and seize the entire shipment of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s
Two Virgins
album because of a full frontal nude photograph of the two on the cover. It’s eventually put on sale wrapped in plain brown paper.
1971
Jerry Jeff Walker’s “Mr. Bojangles” is covered by
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
and stays on the
Billboard
Top 40 100 for thirty-six weeks.
And a look at the real Bojangles, Bill Robinson
1997
The leader of the band Spirit, 45-year old Randy California, drowns off the coast of Molokai, Hawaii, after being swept away in an undertow. He was still able to save his 12-year old son Quinn.
