This Day in Rock History: January 13th
Time to take a look back into this day in rock history:
January 13
1968
Columbia Records didn’t think it was a good idea but Johnny Cash thought otherwise. The “Man in Black” visits Folsom State Prison to record one of his biggest selling albums, a live performance before a captive audience.
1973
Pete Townshend assembles a number of notable musicians to stage Eric Clapton’s Rainbow concert gig. At the time, Clapton is battling drug and alcohol dependency. It results in a sold out show and released as an album.
2016
Giorgio Gomelsky dies at the age of 82. The Rolling Stones first manager, he was replaced in 1963 by Andrew Loog Oldham. He went on to manage a number of other acts including Brian Auger and the Yardbirds before moving to New York, but word is he never got over the loss of the Stones.
