John Lennon and Yoko Ono check into the London Clinic to begin a primal-scream course led by therapist Dr. Arthur Janov. It results in songs on the Plastic Ono Band LP like “Mother” and ”Isolation” that reflect the sessions.
1975
On hiatus before the Who’s fall tour, bassist John Entwhistle brings his band Ox to the Akron Civic Theater.

A private plane crash near Camden, Tennessee claims the life of Patsy Cline. A huge star with “Crazy”, “I Fall to Pieces” and other songs, Cline’s Greatest Hits album was the largest selling female Country album of all time until Shania Twain surpassed it.
The Yardbirds crack the Top Ten with “For Your Love”…but limited participation from the Yardbirds. Keith Relf sings, Jim McCarty drums, but session player Ron Prentice is on bowed bass, with bongos by Denny Piercy and young organist Brian Auger playing the only available keyboards that day, a harpsichord. Eric Clapton and Chris Dreja only contribute their guitar parts in the middle. Auger wonders who will buy a pop record with a harpsichord.
Live fast, die young (and way too soon.) SNL’s John Belushi, also known as “Joliet Jake” from the Blues Brothers, is found dead from a cocaine and heroin overdose in a Los Angeles bungalow.
She did what? Former Jefferson Airplane / Starship vocalist Grace Slick is taken into custody after pointing a shotgun at cops at her California home. She actually gets off kind of easy with community service, and an order to go to Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. Slick looked back on her life in a TV interview.
The family that curses together. MTV airs the first episode of The Osbournes, a look at Ozzy and Sharon’s home life along with the kids. The show is a hit and shows Ozzy and the family to a whole new generation.

The “Treetop Flyer”, Stephen Stills, lands at the Kent Stage.

Aretha Franklin makes an appearance on American Idol telling the finalists to stay away from anything that might end a career. The 72-year old adds, “Meet the challenge and kick butt!”
