Dave Grohl has been doing a lot of the right things lately and for the Grammys and fans of Lemmy he did another.
It was just revealed that Motorhead frontman Lemmy would not have received a musical tribute at the 2016 Grammys without a push from Grohl. Grohl ensured that Lemmy received a proper musical tribute at the Grammys, where the Hollywood Vampires gave a rendition of Motorhead classic Ace of Spades.
Grohl introduced the performance with a dedication to Lemmy, in which he said, “He was a legend and I was proud to call him my friend. I have an Ace Of Spades tattoo, but the truth is that Lemmy left his mark on me a long, long time ago.”
Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich admits he had not been planning a tribute until Grohl suggested he include it, telling Billboard, “I will confess I didn’t have a lot of Motorhead on my iPad… The metalheads have Dave Grohl to thank for that, because when I asked Dave if he would introduce that (In Memoriam) segment, he said to me, ‘I’ll do it if you do something for Lemmy.’”
