He’s planned the release of his comeback album to coincide with his 69th birthday today and David Bowie finally dropped the music video for his new single “Lazarus” on Thursday, delighting fans with its weird and wonderful theme and dark direction.
The rock legend plays a tortured patient in a psychiatric facility in the video for the song, which is taken from Bowie’s 25th studio album “Blackstar”.
Producer Tony Visconti previously said the album was influenced by Kendrick Lamar: “We were listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar. We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn’t do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that’s exactly what we wanted to do, the goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock & roll.”
