Review: Jim Messina Gave A Masterclass Last Night

“An unexpected hit, ‘Your Mama Don’t Dance” Jim Messina said during his 40 minute chat with the crowd at The Kent Stage last evening. This was after his phenomenal hour and one half set with his amazing new band, The Roadrunners.! One of the innovators of “Country Rock”, Jim Messina played songs from his career with Buffalo Springfield, POCO, Loggins & Messina, and his solo career. He also told the stories of being a recording engineer, producer, and guiding/building the career of Kenny Loggins. He mentioned that his collaboration with Kenny Loggins was originally proposed to be called Messina & Loggins but the told the record label that the focus should be on Kenny Loggins.

Jim Messina assembled a band that even Wyle E Coyote could not keep up with, The Roadrunners. As he said during the show, this band sounds bigger than the 5-piece band they are. Simply, incredible. The audience gave back the applauses that Jim Messina & The Roadrunners earned, including the standing ovation at the end of the show.

After his two sets while the instruments were being packed up, Jim Messina came out to the front of the stage and much to the delight of the many who stayed, answered all of the questions that his fans had to ask of him. By the time the stage was emptied, the instruments were packed in the van, Jim Messina answered a final question after nearly a 40 minute “Q and A” session. It was icing on the cake after a great two sets of his music. An awesome night was the refrain heard by those leaving The Kent Stage.

A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame “INDUCTION” worthy show by Jim Messina!
