The Cyrkle – The Outsiders – 1910 Fruitgum Co. @ Robins Theater

Triple Play with The Outsiders, The Cyrkle and 1910 Fruitgum Company

Up first on the bill was The Cyrkle – featuring founding member Don Dannemann.

A great set which included their great hits Turn Down Day and Red Rubber Ball……and the one that got away, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy).

The Cyrkle had the same manager as The Beatles, Brian Epstein, and also toured with the Fab Four. Don had many stories, including how John Lennon gave them their name. The band played a Beatles song for each one of the boys.

Next up on this amazing bill were my friends The Outsiders Live. Wowing the crowd with their Top Hits, Time Won’t Let Me, Girl In Love, Respectable and Help Me Girl – the balance of their set were all songs that the Outsiders recorded over their career.

Finishing up this great evening of music was The 1910 Fruitgum Company featuring founding member Frank Jeckell.

Great stories – finding out they were originally a band playing psychedelic music when they were signed to Buddah Records. The label gave them Simon Says, and were told to fix it….they hated it, but fixed it and the rest is history.

The premier band of the “bubblegum” era – the crowd sang and danced to Goody Goody Gumdrops, Special Delivery, Indian Giver, 1,2,3 Red Light and Simon Says.
