A song that was recorded when Dolly Parton was just eleven years old, “Puppy Love” is released by Goldband Records and flops. Nothing really happens for Parton until her duet with Porter Waggoner charts in 1968 with “The Last Thing on My Mind”.

Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. unveils two 30-second TV commercials to attract vacationing families to Graceland to experience the “real” Elvis Presley. They start airing nationally, the first time that the Presley group has used TV advertising to promote Graceland tourism.

Songwriter Jim Steinman died of kidney failure at the age of 73. Probably best known for his work with Meat Loaf, Steinman also had hits with Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, and Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” among others.
