This Day In Rock History – April 4th

1964
Yeah, that sounds kinda familiar.  A court orders a band called The Trashmen out of Minneapolis to pay royalties to Beechwood Music. That publishing house holds the copyright for The Rivingtons’ 1962 hit “Papa Oom Mow Mow.” The court finds The Trashmen borrowed heavily from on their 1964 hit “Surfin’ Bird”.  Oh, and that’s not the Rivingtons dancing in the video.  (Seriously, what was the purpose?)

2007

A joke!  It was a joke!  Rolling Stone Keith Richards actually has to issue a statement saying he was joking when he told NME magazine the strangest thing he ever snorted was his father’s ashes. “It was an off-the-cuff remark, a joke and it is not true.”   Then again, it’s Keith.
