This Day in Rock History: August 17th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: August 17

1969

Jimi Hendrix insists on headlining the Woodstock concert, but delays finally bring him to the stage early on Monday morning after performances by the Butterfield Blues Band and Sha Na Na.  History would show it was well worth the wait

Meanwhile on the other side of the world, Mick Jagger almost gets his hand blown off with a faulty gun on the set of the film “Ned Kelly” in Australia.

1991

Nirvana fans gather at Culver City’s GMT Studios to star in the band’s video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.  The budget comes in at a very affordable $50.000 and the video cleans up at the ’92 MTV Video Music Awards.
