1972  
Never as big in the US as he was in Europe, Marc Bolan and T.Rex star in Born to Boogie, directed by Ringo Starr for Apple Films.  It premieres in London on this date and features a massive T.Rex show at Wembley Empire Pool.
1977  
New York’s emerging disco culture is the focus of the film Saturday Night Fever which saw its premiere on this date.  The soundtrack is one of the top selling albums of all-time giving new life to the Bee Gees career, and catapults sit-com star John Travolta to superstardom.

1980

Days after being gunned down outside the Dakota in New York, Yoko Ono called on fans worldwide to observe ten minutes of silence in memory of John Lennon.   As many as 100,000 attend the memorial in nearby Central Park.
