Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: December 18

1968
So, what’s in a name?  Nick Gravenites and Mike Bloomfield hold rehearsals for Janis Joplin’s new band, and after some debate decide to work under the name the Kozmic Blues band.

1969
Drawing one of the biggest TV audience’s’ ever, Tiny Tim marries Miss Vicki on NBC’s Tonight show.  At the time Miss Vicki is just 17 years old and later bears Tiny a daughter named Tulip.

1971
Gee, who saw this coming?  Jerry Lee Lewis and his wife / relative Myra end their marriage.  She was only 13 years old when she said, “I do”.  29-year old Karen Elizabeth Gunn Pate is on the “on deck” circle to walk down the aisle with “the Killer”.

Bob Dylan begins his dramatic acting career with a role in ‘Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.’

1975
CBGB’s hosts the Ramones on one of their frequent stops.

2014
Darlene Love lives up to her promise to sing “Christmas Baby, Please Come Home” on the David Letterman Show as she has done every year since 1986. This is her final performance of the song on Letterman.  It was originally included on the 1963 holiday album “A Christmas Gift for you”.

2016

Marcus King’s Band plays the Kent Stage on this date.  He’s been known to have some musical friends in very high places.
