This Day in Rock History: December 6th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: December 6

1969

The musical end of the sixties happened on this date in 1969 with tragedy at the Rolling Stones Altamont concert.

1991

John Lennon’s aunt Mimi Smith, who raised him after his mother left, is laid to rest in Liverpool at the age of 85.  She warned Lennon he would never make a living with a guitar, but later admitted maybe she was mistaken.

The funeral is attended by Cynthia Lennon, her son Julian, Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon. The surviving Beatles send floral arrangements.  Lennon’s “Imagine” is played as the casket descends into the grave.

2014
A family affair at the Kent Stage as Jessica Lea Mayfield and her brother, David, come back to their home turf.  As described in their concert announcement, “Growing up in Kent, Ohio, Jessica Lea and David Mayfield were surrounded by bluegrass and folk music. Both David and Jessica first performed with their family band One Way Rider, traveling across the country in a 1956 tour bus once belonging to Bill Monroe, Kitty Wells, and Ernest leftTubb.”
