This Day in Rock History: January 4th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: January 4

1954
A pivotal moment in pop culture history.  A 19-year old truck driver walks into Sam Phillips’ Memphis Recording Service, plunks down $4, and cuts a ten inch acetate of “Casual Love Affair” and “I’ll Never Stand In Your Way”.   Phillips likes what he hears and invites Elvis Presley to Sun Records the following August.
1964
An oldie but definitely a goodie.  Singer Lenny Welch out of New York covers the big band standard “Since I Fell for You” and take it to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.  By this time the song from 1945 had been covered by at least three dozen other acts.
2018
Just three months short of his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Moody Blues flautist and vocalist Ray Thomas dies at 76.
