Tragedy in the Beatle universe as their long time roadie Mal Evans is shot and killed by Los Angeles police after he points a rifle at them. Evans wife, Lil, called police after she asked him for a divorce.
Sonny Bono dies in a skiing accident. It happened near Lake Tahoe when Bono collided with a tree at high speed. He was just 62. The former producer, singer and TV host later became a congressman admitting that he never voted until he was 54 years old.
Still a force in the music business fifty years after his death, the late Nat “King” Cole has an album on Bilboard’s Top 40 as his version of “The Christmas Song” charts at #29. The last time he charted was in 1966 with “Ramblin’ Rose”.
