This Day in Rock History: January 8th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: January 8

1935
It all starts here.  Gladys Presley gives birth to twins at a two-room “shotgun shack” located 306 Old Saltillo Road, East Tupelo in Mississippi. Jesse Garon Presley is still born, but his brother Elvis Aron Presley goes on to greatness.
1966
ABC broadcasts its final episode of Shindig!, the twice weekly music show that ran even during the summer months and never aired a rerun.  Its final episode salutes other shows that will take its time slot including Batman.
1979
Okay, that’s enough of that!  Cher cuts Gregg Allman loose, divorcing him after an off and on marriage that started in 1975 and resulting in a son named Elijah Blue Allman.  Oh yeah, and that album.
2004
George Harrison’s estate sues a Staten Island University Hospital cancer specialist claiming he forced Harrison to sign autographs for him.  It’s settled out of court with the doctor agreeing to dispose of the items. Opie and Antony weighed in on the controversy.

2015

Elvis Presley’s 1953 acetate demo of the song “My Happiness”, his first recording, sells for $300,000 at auction in Graceland.
