Buffalo Springfield is born when Neil Young, Richie Furay and Stephen Stills join up in Los Angeles.
“Cum On Feel The Noize” by Slade debuts at number one on the UK charts, the first band to do that since the Beatles.
Disinvited! BBC-TV’s “Top of the Pops” bans Smashing Pumpkins from the show over some questionable lyrics in the band’s single, “Disarm”.
This didn’t look like an accident. Happened in Rome when Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain was rushed to the emergency room after took up to 60 pills and washed it down with champagne. He survived, but wasn’t with us long after that.
Engineer, producer and performer, Norman Smith died on this date at the age of 85. Smith worked on every Beatle recording for a three year period starting in 1962, and then moved on to produce several early Pink Floyd albums. He also recorded under the name Hurricane Smith with a 1971 British hit “Don’t Let It Die” and a US hit with “What Would You Say?”
New name and a new price. Michael Jackson’s Santa Barbara, California home…Neverland Ranch, now called Sycamore Velley Ranch…is on the market with a price drop. Originally asking $100-million the year before, it now lists for $67-million. If those walls could talk!
