The TV debut of Dusty Springfield on The Ed Sullivan Show. She sings “I Only Want To Be With You”. Gerry and The Pacemakers and Bobby Rydell are on the same program.
1966
Let’s give it another try. Janis Joplin returns to Texas, but just a year later is urged to return to San Francisco by Chet Helms who is managing Big Brother and the Holding Company. He sends a guy named Travis Rivers, an old friend of Janis’ from Port Arthur, to convince her to join Big Brother. At the time, Joplin was even thinking about becoming a member of 13th Floor Elevators. The results become obvious.
1999
This guy did it all. He wrote songs, did cartoons, wrote books, and was even a screen writer. Shel Silverstein died of a heart attack aged 57. A Grammy winner for writing Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue”, he also did Sylvia’s Mother” and “The Cover of the Rolling Stone” for Dr. Hook and the Mediciine Show.
