This Day in Rock History: November 5th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: November 5

1989
In 1966, Sgt. Barry Sadler appeared on shows like Shindig to plug his hit single, “The Battle of the Green Berets”.  The song topped the charts for five weeks selling five million copies, but Sadler’s life was not easy after that.  Personal disputes and a failed acting career eventually landed him in Guatemala City where he pursued a writing career.  He was shot in the head and was rushed back to the US he head while sitting in a cab, and spent some time in Cleveland’s VA hospital for special treatment.  He was later moved to a Tennessee VA facility where he died of cardiac arrest just short of his 49th birthday.

2016
