Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: November 6

1965

Opening night of Bill Graham’s Fillmore West in San Francisco hosted the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.  The venue was only open for a few years but made a huge cultural impact on the city and the entire musical world. Twenty years later crowds gathered to celebrate its lasting influence.

1971

Pink Floyd was still shaping its musical identity after the departure of Syd Barrett when it played Case Western Reserve University in fall 1971.

1984

It was on this date that the Rev, Marvin Gaye Sr. was sentenced to five years in prison for the shooting death of his son, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Marvin Gaye, Jr.  Originally charged with murder he was later allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter.

2021

A man of many talents, Dennis Quaid said he had a hard decision choosing whether to concentrate on his acting or musical careers.

A founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John McEuen even gave banjo lessons to comic Steve Martin.
