Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: October 21

1958
Buddy Holly records his final session at Coral Records New York studios on East 80th street also known as the “Pythian Temple”. Holly had by this time split from his backing band, the Crickets, and was now married for a couple of months to Maria Elena.  One of the songs recorded is “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” which was released shortly before his fatal plane crash the following February.

1979
One of the great soap operas of rock, the Eagles play well on stage and in the studio but they make it clear that’s usually about it.

1985 
Johnny Cash is joined by George Harrison, Ringo Starr and others in an all star televised tribute to Carl Perkins titled Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session.

2015
Multi-instrumentalist Edgar Winter has a long history with his solo career, Ringo Starr’s All-Stars, his brother Johnny and more.  He’s still getting big time attention from the fans and his peers.

Despite key lineup changes, Acoustic Alchemy continues to draw crowds for its jazz influenced acoustic catalog.

A pioneer in the British folk rock movement as a founding member of Fairport Convention, Thompson’s solo work continues to draw exceptional reviews.

A founding member of the influential Husker Du and later Sugar, Bob Mould continues to show audiences his wide range of talents and influences.
