Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: October 26

1965

In a move that sent some past honorees scrambling to return their honors, Queen Elizabeth II awards the Beatles medals signifying “Members of the British Empire”.  Rumors swirl that the band smoked a joint in the Buckingham Palace men’s room claiming the MBE’s now stood for “Marijuana brings enlightenment” but that story is later declared false by the Beatles.

1991
The golden age of punk / grunge.  Notice the opening acts in a 3500-seat theater.

The last man standing, and with the formal consent of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake’s families, drummer Carl Palmer tours with a multi-media package to continue the legacy of prog rock giants ELP (including length drum solos!)
