This Day in Rock History: October 29th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: October 29

1971

It was on this date that 24-year old Duane Allman, whose career skyrocketed with the Allman Brothers Band and his work with Derek and the Dominoes, was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a truck in Macon, Georgia.

1974

With fans clamoring for new David Bowie product after the demise of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, 1974 saw Bowie play seven sold-out nights with his Diamond Dogs Tour at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

On that same date in 1978, the animated Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, airs on NBC-TV. The guys in Kiss match wits with a mad scientist who flips out at an amusement park. Each member of Kiss had just released their solo albums.

2017
A crossover folk artist, Shawn Colvin played some of her earliest gigs at the Kent Stage.

2004
The Pete Best Band plays the Kent Stage during the university’s annual Halloween street celebration.  Members of the band are seen under the marquee watching the alcohol fueled and costumed mayhem.  Best would say on a later trip, “I played with the Beatles on the Reeperbahn and thought I’d seen it all. But I’ve never seen anything like Kent, Ohio, at Halloween!”
