Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: October 3

1967

Woody Guthrie says farewell to his mortal coil, the victim of Huntington’s Chorea which first affected him in the 1950s.  He dies in New Jersey.  That same year his son, Arlo, releases his rambling folk song about the “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree”, which becomes a Thanksgiving staple for many radio stations.


2015
On the anniversary of his dad’s death, Arlo Guthrie performs “Alice’s Restaurant” at the Lorain Palace.

The Byrds recreate their classic “Sweethearts of the Rodeo” at the Akron Civic Theater.
