This Day in Rock History: September 18th

Time to take a look back into this day in rock history: September 18

1970
Jaw dropping news from England as Jimi Hendrix was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Mary Abbot’s Hospital in London.  He was just 27 and choked on his own vomit. Eerily, Hendrix left a message ‘I need help bad man’, on his managers answering service earlier that night. Lots of  theories around Hendrix’s death. Eric Burdon claimed Jimi committed suicide, but that’s contradicted by others who say he was in a good frame of mind. In 2009, a former Animals roadie put out a book claiming Jimi’s manager had admitted to him he arranged Hendrix’ demise because he wanted out of his contract.

…and for the conspiracy buffs.

1983

MTV shows KISS without their makeup for the first time to promote the new LP “Lick It Up”.

1991

Rob Tyner lead singer with Detroit’s MC5 died after a heart attack in the seat of his parked car in his hometown of Berkley, Michigan. MC5 formed in Detroit in 1965,  and they released their first album, ‘Kick Out the Jams’ in 1969.

Not a happy story

2015
