1952

Ahmet Ertegun bought out Ray Charles’ contract from Swingtime Records, and Charles recorded his first sessions for Atlantic with four songs. He pumps out classics year after year like  ‘I Got a Woman,’ ‘Hallelujah, I Love Her So’ and ‘What’d I Say.’

1997

One of the Beatles’ inner circle, publicist Derek Taylor, dies at age 67.  He also worked for the Bee Gees, Beach Boys and Lou Adler and Papa John Phillips to stage the Monterrey Pop Festival.  Plus, he helped develop the Beatles Anthology trilogy.

2002
Bruce Dickinson with Iron Maiden takes a side gig as an airline pilot.  It pays £35,000 as a year first officer with the Gatwick based airline Astraeus taking people to Portugal and Egypt.
