A film based on one of the few songs from the Beatle catalog that John Lennon truly likes, “Help!” opens in New York weeks after its London premiere. Their second film is in color which shows the studio thought the band was worth the extra production costs.

1966

Burn Beatle Burn!  John Lennon apologized for the remark comparing the Beatles to Christianity, but that’s not enough for some radio stations in the Deep South. Radio stations organize Beatle bonfires to destroy records and memorabilia.

1971

Drug dealers stab noted saxophone player King Curtis to death on the steps of his Manhattan apartment. The former Curtis Ousley is only 37 years old, and is heard on a series of top selling records including the Coasters “Yakety Yak”.  He was also a noted stage performer.
